Shirts are a universal form of communication. Through Souns the child is an active participant in his or her printed language. Wearing a Souns shirt, the child states very publicly, "I am involved in my language. I am little, but I know this sound."
The obvious joy of an 18 month old as he looks down to confirm his "sss" is all it takes to understand the pride associated with "knowing" a building block of our language. Consider the following:
A toddler discovers a pile of Souns shirts to be washed and picks up one shirt at a time, articulating the sound of each symbol.
A two year old exclaims as she sees letters on her grandfather's shirt, "You have on my Souns!" She then proceeded to touch and identify each sound.
Children thrive on "knowing!"
